Brady is 9!

Brady-boo is officially in his last year of single digits. We’ve made it to the halfway point of his childhood. What the what? How is that possible?

20200621_10123820200621_10043420200621_100608

We sure did luck out with this kid. He is the coolest, quirkiest, funniest 9 year old you could ever imagine. He loves to create, build, and daydream. He loves to talk anyone’s ear off and is a friend to all. This year he has found a love for Tae-kwon-do, Harry Potter, and adventure seeking. He is always learning, and often gets in trouble for staying up too late reading. He is one of a kind and makes the world a better place.

Happy birthday, sweet boy! We love you!

Nolan is 7!

Well, it wasn’t the birthday Nolan had planned for, but it was still pretty special. Our littlest man turned 7 right in the middle of a world wide pandemic. He had great dreams of celebrating this day with friends and family at Top Golf and showing off his driving skills to everyone. Instead, he had a virtual Zoom birthday party with family singing and watching him open presents. The whole neighborhood got together and did a drive by parade in his honor. He even got to pick his favorite foods to eat all day- tacos, grilled cheese and pancakes, of course.

It is so hard for me to believe it has been 7 years since that Spring day that Nolan was born in the middle of Amish country in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. In some ways it seems like just yesterday, and in other ways, it seems life 2 different lifetimes ago.  Afterall, he has now lived in 3 states, 4 homes and gone to 3 different schools.

Nolan has always brought us so much laughter and “OMG, imagine what he’ll be like in college” moments. He pushes us to our breaking points on most days, but totally redeems himself with his quick wit and tender heart. His favorite thing in the world is to play any kind of ball with his daddy. He loves to compete, win, and is still working on being a good sport. He cannot wait for this Coronavirus to be over so he can get back to playing soccer and having sports on T.V.

He melts his mommy with his perfectly timed “do you want to snuggle?” moments. His bed is full of his “puppets” and blankies and he is very particular about which ones go where. He is a perfectionist and overachiever. He strives to the be the best at school, sports, and anything we can turn into a competition. If he can put that drive to good use, he’ll go very far in life.

He is such a good boy and stinker all at once. This one is full of charm. We love you SO much Bubba! Our lives are more fun with you in it.

Brady’s Birthday Celebrations

Summer is a busy time for our family. We have so many celebrations between birthdays, anniversaries, and Father’s Day. We still find time to party hard for our kids’ special days. This year was no different. Brady had a special day on his actual birthday, a party with his friends at the movie theater to see Solo, and a family party. Here are some pictures from his celebrations.

Brady is a blessed little boy to have so many friends and family who love him and love to celebrate him!

Nolan’s Birthday Celebrations

Just wanted to do a quick recap of all the ways we celebrated our Bubba turning 5. He is so loved and was celebrated by so many. He had a class party, a special family and friends day on his actual birthday, and a big American Ninja Warrior party with some of our favorite people. He loved every minute of it!

Celebrating with his sweet Pre-K class…

Nolan’s Birthday Celebrations

I realize I’ve been slacking on my blog posts lately…life, has been busy! I did not want to miss the opportunity to document all of the awesome celebrations we had for Nolan turning 3. So, better late than never!

Our sweet Nolie is ridiculously obsessed with trains these days. His favorite place on Earth is Tweetsie Railroad. He spends countless hours watching YouTube videos of steam engines. And, his wooden track and trains that my Grandma Dot bought the boys are his most prized possessions. So, it made perfect sense to have an all out train themed birthday. Instead of one big party, Nolan got to have 2 different train rides with friends and family, as well as a little party with his school friends (complete with Thomas the Train cupcakes and engineer hats of course.)

We started celebrating with a trip to the railway museum in Savannah. We got to ride a diesel engine and look at all the cool trains. Grandma drove up for the celebration and we had lunch at the Pirate House restaurant with her and Grandpa and Nana.

20160402_121301.jpg20160402_122216.jpg20160402_143720.jpg20160402_145527.jpg7543bc2f-6eda-41b8-a21b-12ac289fd94a.jpgd31a5270-e704-46ed-bfc6-99c924fbb696.jpgc5773604-ab3c-4c32-a7eb-d6c6dcf08d5f.jpgcaf2095f-7922-4fa3-bc1c-08618381adba.jpg

On the day of Nolan’s actual birthday we surprised him with a new Mickey train and donuts for breakfast. The simplest things make him so happy! He then celebrated at school with his favorite Miss Beverley and all his little friends.

20160404_211234.jpg20160405_080538.jpg20160405_081402.jpg20160405_123601.jpg20160405_101541.jpg20160405_123627.jpg20160405_123722.jpg20160405_1245350.jpg20160406_183146.jpg20160406_183151.jpg

For Nolan’s last celebration, we got together with some of our friends from our neighborhood and went on another train ride. It was an open air steam engine (and it was COLD outside!) The things you do for the ones you love! Then, we celebrated at our house with pizza, cookie cake, and playtime with his buddies.

20160410_105828.jpg20160410_105834.jpg20160410_121149.jpg20160410_112924.jpg20160410_120900.jpg20160410_152659.jpg20160410_151012.jpg20160410_142227.jpg

All in all, this little boy is very loved (and just a little bit spoiled!)

July Adventures

Is July seriously over? That went fast! It’s hard to believe we’re onto our last month of summer before the boys head back to pre-school. We had a fun month- it was a mix of relaxed summer days, travel, and visits from friends and family. Oh, and it was also the month of the big red cast.

Not that it slowed us down at all!

wpid-20150628_110429.jpg wpid-20150628_110330.jpg

It was also the month that Nolan showed us that yes, he is indeed in his Terrible 2’s. That delightful mix of sweet and crazy.

wpid-20150715_140346.jpg wpid-20150724_170839.jpg

We had a very All-American 4th of July weekend. We had sparklers, cookouts, fire pits, S’mores, time with neighbors, adult beverages, and of course, fireworks over the golf course.

wpid-20150704_194843.jpg wpid-20150704_210258.jpg

Chris had meetings in Virginia Beach, so we decided to keep him company and tag along. I’m always surprised at how much I love that area. The boys were obsessed with all the fighter jets going over the beach, and we enjoyed some awesome seafood and great views.

wpid-20150708_133926.jpg wpid-20150708_134348.jpg

And yea, that cast was very full of sand by the time it came off.

wpid-20150709_103735.jpg wpid-20150709_105251.jpg

We had a fun visit from our friends, the Hootens. It’s so cute to see our kiddos growing up and getting to know each other.

Me and my sweet Goddaughter, Taylor!

After 3 weeks, Brady got his cast off. The bone did not heal completely, so he had another 2 weeks of wearing a boot, but he sure was excited to get that cast off. Although, I have to say, he really did not complain about it at all. He’s our lil’ trooper.

wpid-20150714_091402.jpg wpid-20150714_091714.jpg wpid-20150714_091957.jpg

One of our favorite parts of the summer, has got to be our trip to the Outer Banks. Again, Chris has customers out there that he had to visit, so we tagged along. (The perks/trade off for having a husband who travels a lot)

Our first night, Nags Head greeted us with an amaaaazing dinner with the best view I could imagine. Right away, we knew we’d be coming back to Outer Banks as much as possible!

wpid-20150715_200033-1.jpg wpid-20150715_200231.jpg

While Chris was at work, the boys and I explored the beach at Kitty Hawk. Holy waves. It was truly the prettiest beach we’ve been to. (Sorry Daytona & Clearwater! We still love you!)

Nicholas Sparks, I so get why you love North Carolina.

After Chris was done working, we were able to explore more of the area/ plan our next vacation!

wpid-20150717_104909.jpg

One of our most memorable parts of the Outer Banks was exploring the Sand Dunes at Kill Devil Hills. They were…breathtaking. Such a cool experience. So obviously, it goes wihout saying that pictures do not do them justice. There’s no way to properly capture the magnitude of how big and expansive those sandy hills are! If you look closely in each picture you may be able to see tiny dots in the background (people in the distance) that give you an idea of how far they stretched out. Oh, and props to Chris for carrying B up those hills with his big booted foot kicking him in the face. Poor kid. Poor daddy.

wpid-20150716_201107.jpg wpid-20150716_202657.jpg

As soon as we got home from the Outer Banks, Grandpa and Nana came up for a long weekend and we celebrated Chris’s birthday. They kids had a blast planning his little family party. I let them loose in Party City and they picked out the best decorations!

This month also marked Nolan’s first time going to a movie. He did surprisingly well. For Nolan. We’ve been going to $1 movies they show for kids in the mornings, but we even went to see the Minion movie with Grandpa and Nana one afternoon. He mostly loves the popcorn.

wpid-20150720_164211.jpg wpid-20150720_182055.jpg

We also had lots of ordinary, every day moments, that helped pass the lazy days of summer and remind us just how precious this time is with our sweet boys.

RAWR! Brady turns 4!

We had a fabulous time celebrating Brady today! While he doesn’t officially turn 4 until June 21st, we decided to have his party a little early because we are doing a lot of traveling later in the month. Our little dino-lover had a dinosaur theme complete with a (Publix!) dinosaur cake, a triceratops piñata, and lots of dinosaur presents from his friends. It was a perfect day spent with friends and family-Brady is so blessed to have so many people who love him! Here are some of my favorite pictures from the party.

Good friends, perfect weather, water balloons, slip-n-slide, pool, and candy- being 4 is pretty awesome!

Dinosaur Cupcakes- Kids Cook Monday

The other day we had a boring, rainy day in Raleigh. Chris was out of town and it was too wet and cool outside to do anything fun outdoors with the boys. In other words, it was the perfect day to bake something. I told Brady we should bake something fun and asked him if he had any suggestions. He quickly replied, “A Dinosaur Cake!” While I was not exactly sure how to pull that off, I knew we had to make it work because he was so proud of his idea.

10

This cooking session with B-Man was not necessarily about trying a fancy new recipe or pulling off some elaborate Pinterest project- but more about getting messy in the kitchen and having some fun. We didn’t pay attention to swapping out ingredients for healthier alternatives, in fact we used a boxed cake mix we had in the pantry. We indulged in sugar and fat and loved every minute of it. No regrets.

First, we made a list of the steps for making some really cool dinosaur cupcakes. We got out all of our ingredients and got to work.

1

Our to-do list for making cupcakes. He loves lists! He’s so my kid!

We used a boxed cake mix (watermelon flavor!) for our cupcakes. Actually, we used half of a package of cake mix because we really didn’t need that many cupcakes. We added 1 egg, 1 cup of water, and 3/4 cup oil. Brady helped crack the egg and stir up the batter. We put our cupcakes in the oven and got to work on our homemade frosting.

2

3

I used this recipe I found online for our frosting. http://www.supercouponlady.com/easy-buttercream-frosting-recipe/ Brady helped me use the blender to make it nice and fluffy and then we added in green dye-per Brady’s request.

4

While our cupcakes were cooling, Brady got to work picking out some of his favorite dinosaurs to top our cupcakes with.

5

Sidenote: Stop what you’re doing right now and go find watermelon flavored cake mix at Target. Smelled and tasted amazzzzzing!

B gave them all a bath so they were nice and clean.

67

Decorating the cupcakes was definitely Brady’s favorite step. He was so proud of how they turned out and even wanted to bring some to our neighbor’s house.

89

I loved this time in the kitchen with my Brady-Boo. He was so involved and so happy to be making his “vision” come to life! Also, despite the fact that he is not usually a dessert loving kiddo, he ate every bit of one of these cupcakes. He must’ve tasted the love in them!

11

Best. Rainy. Day. Ever.

12

I love that little finger sneaking into the picture trying to get a taste!

Pirate Party- Arrghh!!

Recently, a sweet little girl I know, named Ryley, turned 4. Her momma, Darrah, and I became friends in grad school, and have remained close since. It’s hard to believe we both have little ones now, let alone little ones who have turned 4!!

wpid-img_217665394416171.jpeg

Throwback! This was baby Brady and Ry right before her 1st birthday. Where has the time gone?!

Darrah had a fantastic Pirate themed party planned for Ry’s big day, and asked if Chris and I could help her come up with some printables for the food and décor. Of course we obliged, and her party turned out so cute! Here’s some pictures from the party.

LOVE this Fleet of Cupcakes!

Darrah’s creativity teamed up with a few of these Pirate printables, made for an amazing party that any 4 year old would love to have! Here’s the links to the printables that we designed with Ry’s party in mind, but would be perfect for any Pirate themed event. There are game titles, thank you notes, and food labels. Nolan’s Hole In ONE Par-tee!

We had a busy, busy weekend full of family, friends, and celebrating Nolan’s first birthday! This year has truly FLOWN by. I can’t believe our baby is now a one year old…a one year old who had an absolute blast at his party! He loved seeing all of his little friends, eating cake, and most of all, balloons! Or as he called them, BALLS!

His party was a golf theme that was put together with the help of Pinterest and Etsy. Seriously, what did we ever do without those sites….wander the craft store, trying to muster up inspiration?? Psshh! Here’s a little glimpse of the party set up, decor, and food…

Nolan was also blessed to have his Grandma, Uncle Charles, Aunt Gift and cousin Chloe at his party. We did our best to get group shots with everyone looking!
